5 HEALTHY FASTING TIPS FOR KARVA CHAUTH

Karva Chauth is round the corner again. This year, it will be celebrated on 27th October.

Traditionally, married Hindu women observe fast to seek the longevity and well-being of their husbands. Unmarried women, too, celebrate this festival for their prospective grooms.

Fasting can be difficult as it uses up a lot of body energy. Therefore, it's important to take care of your health, without compromising on the festive mood while fasting.

Healthy Fasting Tips:

1. Lack of fluids can cause dizziness. So, drink sufficient water to keep your body hydrated.

2. Avoid or reduce the consumption of dehydrating foods like salt and coffee.

3. Avoid sugar in all forms, as it lowers the blood sugar level in your body and makes you feel thirsty.

4. An empty stomach induces mood swings. Therefore, it is advised to take proper rest the day before fasting.

5. Opt for a light meal the day before the fasting. A heavy meal won’t help as opposed to the general belief. Instead, choose a healthy meal that is rich in protein, carbohydrates and vegetables. It will slow down the burning process of nutrition and therefore easy the fasting process. Also, abstain from meat consumption because it’s hard to digest.

It is advised that pregnant/lactating women, diabetics, teenagers and anyone with medical problems should abstain from keeping fast.
